Welcome to our Ranch and Farm Pages! Yucatan living and business at its best..."Off the beaten path"! (*Homes and lots within city limits will be found under "Homes Merida" and/or "Investment Properties, Land and Lot"s) Here below you will find exciting properties ideal for many uses not only for their traditional productive and profitable uses but for any number of additional possibilities and combinations from Eco-Tourism Centers, Retreats, and Hotels, to Reforestation Projects, Research Centers, and any variety of Intentional Communities. Whether or not profit is your primary motive you will nevertheless find unlimited potential, wide open space, and peace in an unspoiled, natural setting of unparalleled intensity and beauty here in the land of the Maya. The really incredible advantage (in addition to prices being what they were in Merida 5-10 years ago!) to our, as yet undiscovered, environs is that you will always be less than 2 hours from Merida and under 3 hours to Cancún on all-new highways, 15-to 20 minutes from our lovely local community of Panaba, 30 to 40 minutes from the City of Tizimin (for shopping, banking, restaurants, hospitals, and the cinema), and, in most cases, under 90 minutes from both Valladolid, and the world famous Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza , Ek Balam and others. The fishing and eco-tourism centers of San Felipe and Rio Lagartos will be within 20 to 40 minutes from your new location in most cases. And the beaches!!!!! Breathtaking and usually with very few to almost no other people whenever you are ready! From world class sport fishing to world class bird watching; it´s all just a short drive away through some of the loveliest countryside you cannot imagine if you have not been there. As you consider choosing this "road less traveled", you will nevertheless always have the options available for the latest comforts accommodations, and cultural venues of the mainstream developments available and taking place in the nearby Urban Centers and cities...only in this case... on your terms and on ...your schedule. Will you really miss the traffic, the crowds, the struggle to find parking? We don´t! Come and have a look. We think you will be pleasantly surprised as you begin to explore and enjoy our region. It takes time though and like pealing off the layers of an onion, the true benefits and advantages may not immediately present themselves to the typical, often stressed-out city dweller. In fact, let us say from the beginning, living in the country, even part-time may not be for everyone and perhaps that´s a good thing. You´ll need to have or learn some basic Spanish for sure. You´ll need to be adaptable. It gets hot and humid in the countryside about 3 to 6 months per year (Probably why God invented Mini-Splits?)and to be sure there are little inconveniences like brief power outages after a spectacular lightening and thunder "show". If bugs are "icky" or paralyzing for you then this may not be your cup of tea. This place, the ecosystem, is as yet uncontaminated so "bugs" and butterflies and birds and all variety of other fauna are common here. Still, we´re NOT talking about the Amazon here. Keeping your screens in good repair, keeping the grounds around your house clean/clear and with the occasional fumigation, pretty much keeps "nature" in nature and not in your kitchen or living room. You are of course wondering about...snakes. No? Yes there are snakes. We´ve seen them crossing the roads from time to time over the past 5+ years but we have yet to see a single one on our 255+ acre property which is four kilometers of "bush" or jungle around the perimeter. Nope, never seen a single snake on our property which isn´t to say that they are not out there. It´s just that they tend to do their very best to avoid human contact whenever possible and besides most of them are non-venomous bug and rodent eaters(a good thing!) and so are really a plus in terms of keeping potential pests under control. Nothing you cannot get used to but we thought you should know. By the way, if you choose a property in Panaba and/or one of the "Puertos" like San Felipe, or Rio Lagartos, the natural environment is much more forgiving and less invasive than it sometimes is in the "campo" although they do tend to have mosquitos year round to varying degrees while on the ranchos we are only bother the first 8-10 days or so once the rainy season begins. Indeed, except for the lack of crowds, traffic, pollution, and parking, and considerably higher utility bills, it will be like living in almost any other town or City in the marvelous Yucatán so not to worry. Finally, be prepared for all manner of responses from "Where the heck is...???", or " Are you crazy?" to "Why would anyone...?" to "You´ll die of boredom" or "If it´s not beach front forget it!" or "If it´s not Merida Centro, forget it!" ...when you mention to your friends and/or Realtors that you are at least thinking of taking a day and having a look at our area. After 5 years, we ...still...get that reaction and very few of our ex pat friends and even fewer of the Realtors from Merida we know personally have ...ever... taken the opportunity to come have a look at what we consider one of the most beautiful, most exciting, and certainly most reasonably priced and accessible areas the Yucatán has to offer. Don´t let the naysayers...especially the inexperienced... discourage you. If you have a hunch, follow it! We´re pretty sure you´ll be delighted you did! Speaking of Realtors, there are certainly some talented, knowledgeable, hard-working, great people, and true professionals out there although those, in our experience, are unfortunately too far and few between. "Buyer Beware" would be our best advice and for more on this issue and why we started this website please click here to visit our "About Us" page. Thanks! |
