| Additional Income Sources Continued: Besides the Tilapia operation which, with the current 17 tanks, could easily be netting $75K pesos to $85K pesos on a monthly basis, there is also room for expansion of this existing operation. There is also a second complete set of 17 tanks and all of the necessary equipment available right now which can again double your monthly capacity. That equipment new, and as mentioned earlier, would run approximately $1,700,000.00 pesos before installation. We have a client who, with just 3 months of operating his new farm, has recently divorced, and will be moving north again soon and as such is offering his virtually NEW and complete set-up at a substantial loss at $950,000.00 pesos, INSTALLED and running at the location of your choice!. Tropical Sheep: Other profit options include the usual cattle but more promising we feel is the rapidly expanding market and demand for tropical sheep which cost far less to purchase, breed much faster, require less room, and whose price has remained level or increased slightly while world and local cattle markets have faltered and sometimes floundered. The sheep, when combined with a commercial reforestation project or plantation, not only fertilize the trees but keep the ground underneath the trees clear of underbrush, thus eliminating the very destructive and environmentally disastrous practice of annual slashing and burning, And, there is much more profit in commercial reforestation these days than in cattle, not to mention the substantial benefit to everyone by the planting of several thousands or many thousands of trees in an increasingly arid and hot environment made so, in part, by the loss of vegetation sacrificed to make still more pasture for grazing. Reforestation: The government is currently awarding generous subsidies for reforestation of a number of species of trees which have inherently high commercial value as well. Our favorite is the Neem tree , originally from India but which is rapidly becoming a revolutionizing agent for change in everything from sustainable agriculture, reversing desertification, organic pesticides, and medicine, including in the treatment of fungal, bacterial, parasite, and viral infections. Click here for a summary of this amazing tree's incredible properties. Also be sure to Google Neem and Diabetes, Cancer, AIDS, Malaria and Dengue fevers, as well as many varieties of skin and gum diseases.... Meantime, let me finish for now with the Neem, by saying the Neem is not only prized for it's chemical properties but also for it's lumber. The Mexican government is paying...TAX free... those who plant this marvel of Nature, $8500 pesos per hectare plus 1000 pesos per month for technical assistance plus other supports over a two year period. The Neem grows extremely fast, is extremely drought resistant, and can reach 30 feet in height in just 3 years from seed. It is a cousin of the mahogany tree but is so bug and disease resistant that Neem products are now being used to treat and protect very vulnerable, young mahogany and Spanish Cedar tree, thus increasing production and profits dramatically. Another exciting thing about Neem as a commercial lumber is that starting from about 12 months from seed, it is possible to harvest Neem leaves to make organic pesticides, medicines, anti-parasite medications and numerous other valuable organic products. By year 5-6, 40-45% of the 1200 trees planted per hectare are harvested or "thinned" leaving approximately 600-700 maturing trees to continue growing and giving their wealth of products including leaves, bark, and seeds from the Neem fruit which are crushed and Neem oil is extracted. By year 6 or sooner, each tree harvested should be worth well in excess of $200 to $300 US. If you plant the minimum 25 hectares x 1200 trees and harvest 500 trees at year 5-6 then you are talking very conservatively of a harvest involving 12,500 trees at $200 US each, or $2,500,000.00 US...and this is not counting the valuable and medicinal bark from the felled trees nor the products harvested from the trees over a 4-5 year period previous to their cutting. And remember, even after the "thinning", you will still have between 600-800 mature trees turning out increasingly valuable products indefinitely (The Neem lives in excess of 250 years). In this case, you would be irrigating and fertilizing your Neems and other crops from the run-off from the Tilapia tanks. The sheep would graze away the underbrush from under your trees. They would also eat fallen leaves as well as leaves that you may mix into their food regularly thus preventing or curing any problems they have with parasites. Neem is also a tick repellent, a mosquito repellent, and can be sprayed on any number of valuable cash crops from chilies to tomatoes. 100% organic and home grown. Neem Pesticides are currently selling locally for $300 pesos per liter, another potential income stream apart from your own needs. In fact, 1 hectare of Neem, on your own farm or ranch, is sufficient to take care of up to 120 hectares so that even with a few hectares planted, you would still have more than enough product left over to sell at a profit. Just a few ideas for this or almost any other of our properties.... |
